Apps for Actors in India: Where to Find Auditions and Get Seen

Partha Sarathi CeeraFounder, Gig'le

If you want to act in India, you have probably been told to make a profile on all the apps for actors you can find. Some of them lead to real auditions. Some lead nowhere. A few are scams.
This guide goes through the apps and websites for actors in India, grouped by what each one is for, so you can choose the few that are worth your time. Gig'le is on the list, and so are the others.
Platforms for being seen
Before anyone casts you, they need to see you. These two are where many actors keep their photos, clips and showreel.
Many actors use Instagram as a public portfolio, and casting teams may look you up there. A clear profile with a short bio, a few good photos and some short performance clips shows who you are in seconds. Many casting directors and production houses also post casting calls on their own Instagram accounts.
Good for: being seen, short clips, following casting directors and theatre groups. Less good for: applying in an organised way. Anyone can post a "casting call", and nothing checks whether it is real.
YouTube
YouTube suits longer work: a showreel, a monologue, a scene from a play, or a short film you acted in. A link to a well-made showreel is one of the most useful things you can send with an application.
Good for: your showreel and full scenes. Less good for: finding auditions. You go there to show your work, not to find work.
Casting apps and websites for actors
Casting platforms are where many calls for films, web series and ads are posted. Each works like an acting auditions app: you keep a profile, browse casting calls and apply. Read every listing carefully, and check who posted it.
Talentrack
Talentrack lists casting calls for movies, web series and ad films across India. Actors and other artists can register, browse projects and submit auditions through the site.
Good for: film, web series and ad auditions.
Castkro
Castkro calls itself a professional network for the entertainment industry. Actors, models and other artists build a profile with photos, videos and a demo reel, browse casting calls that state the role, city, age range and pay, and apply from the site. It says creating a profile and applying are free for talent.
Good for: keeping a casting profile and applying to calls by city and role.
Casting directors' own pages
Many established casting directors and production houses post calls on their own websites and social accounts. Following the ones who cast the kind of work you want is often more useful than joining another app.
Good for: real auditions from people whose work you can look up.
Platforms for the stage and live work
For stage time and paid live performances, the work is usually local: theatre groups, venues and the organisers of events in your city.
Theatre groups and workshops
For many actors, the stage is where the work starts. City theatre groups hold auditions for their productions, run workshops and need actors for readings and festivals. Being part of one gives you stage time, people to learn from and a network that leads to other roles.
Good for: stage time, training and meeting directors.
Gig'le
Gig'le is a social network for artists in India, and theatre is one of its crafts. Organisers and venues post gigs on the Gigs board, each with the craft, location, experience level and pay stated, and you can filter it to theatre and your city. You press Apply on the ones that suit you, the organiser is notified and can accept or decline, and you agree the details with them directly.
The Events board lists theatre and other live events you can attend or perform at, and the theatre page gathers theatre gigs and events in one place. The clips and photos you post on your profile are what organisers see when you apply.
Good for: live performance work and theatre events in your city, with the pay stated up front. Less good for: film and television casting. That is what the casting platforms above are for.
Creating an account and browsing are free.
How to tell a real casting call from a scam
Fake casting calls do circulate, especially on social media. Before you apply or go to an audition:
- Never pay to audition. A genuine casting call does not charge a registration, portfolio or audition fee. Being asked to pay is the clearest warning sign.
- Look up who posted it. A real casting director or production house has a track record you can find: past projects, a website, people who have worked with them.
- Be wary of vague calls. "Lead role in a big film, no experience needed" with no project name, director or dates is a reason to be careful.
- Keep the first meeting professional. Auditions happen at studios, offices or casting venues. If something feels wrong, take someone with you or do not go.
- Protect your details. Do not send ID documents or bank details until you have a written offer from someone you have checked.
Our trust and safety page has more on staying safe when you look for work as an artist.
Before you say yes to a paid role
Whether it is a film day, an ad or a run of a play, agree the terms in writing first: the fee, the dates, the hours, travel, when you will be paid and what happens if the shoot or show is cancelled. Our live performance agreement checklist covers what to confirm. It is written for musicians, but almost every point applies to actors.
How to choose the right apps for actors
You do not need every app. Start from what you need most now.
- Be seen by casting teams: Instagram, with a showreel on YouTube
- Find film, web series and ad auditions: Casting platforms such as Talentrack and Castkro, and casting directors' own pages
- Get stage time and training: A theatre group or workshop in your city
- Find paid live work and theatre events near you: Gig'le, local theatre groups and venues
A simple set-up to start with
- Photos and a showreel. Two or three clear photos and a short reel of your best work. If you have no screen work yet, film a monologue.
- One casting platform you check every week, and a list of casting directors you follow.
- One way onto a stage. A theatre group, a workshop, or the open mics and events near you. If you are new to performing live, start with our guide to open mics.
Keep everything up to date. Whoever finds you first, recent work is what helps them decide.

Frequently asked questions
What are the best apps for actors in India?
- It depends on the work you want. For film, web series and ad auditions, many actors use casting platforms such as Talentrack and Castkro, along with casting directors' own pages. To be seen, they use Instagram and a showreel on YouTube. For live performance work and theatre events, Gig'le lists gigs and events by city.
Is there a free website for actors in India?
- Some casting platforms let actors create a profile and apply for free; Castkro, for example, says profiles and applications are free for talent. On Gig'le, creating an account and browsing gigs and events are free.
How do I know if a casting call is fake?
- Be careful if it asks you to pay a registration or audition fee, gives no project, director or dates, or comes from someone you cannot look up. A genuine casting call does not charge actors to audition.
Do I need a showreel to get auditions?
- It helps a great deal. A short reel of your best work, or a filmed monologue if you have no screen work yet, lets casting teams see you act before they meet you.
Can I find acting work on Gig'le?
- Yes, for live performance. Organisers and venues post theatre gigs with the location, experience level and pay stated, and you can apply directly. Gig'le is not a film casting platform; for film, web series and ad auditions, use the casting platforms above.
